Microsoft Hacked Symbian Samsung i8910 HD Into a Windows Phone 7 Series

At MIX10, Microsoft used a Samsung phone that resembled the original Microsoft Asus-sourced hardware, but Samsung says it didn't build that particular phone. Instead, it seems that Microsoft had obtained a Samsung i8910 HD, a Symbian model that isn't available in the US, and swapped out some components to make it meet the specs requirements for Windows Phone 7 Series.

The Redmond, Washington software maker changed the three buttons on the bottom to match the Windows Phone 7 Start, Back, and Search requirements, added a Qualcomm Snapdragon (or compatible CPU) processor, and included a WVGA screen--all of which are absent in the consumer release version of the Symbian powered Samsung i8910 HD. According to Samsung, "The launch was from Microsoft, not Samsung, and they used the i8910HD to demo Windows 7."

Samsung is listed as a Windows Phone 7 Series partner so even if the i8910 HD doesn't get a lobotomy from its Symbian roots and get a Windows Phone OS transplant, we can expect something from Samsung.

It replaces your theme background with any image of your choice. On your standby screen, in the menu, in folders, and in every application that uses your theme image as background.

Version 1.01.1 fixes a wallpaper selection bug that bit some phones.

FreeFSWP only works on Symbian S60 3rd edition phones with feature pack 1 or older. This includes popular phones like the Nokia N82 and N95. It doesn't work on feature pack 2 phones like the Nokia N79 or S60 th ed. phones like the Nokia 5800XM. The program needs to be signed before you can install it, unless you've hacked your phone to get rid of the Symbian Signed madness.

eBuddy: new colors, old ads

Mobile Java multi-network chat program eBuddy connects to MSN, Yahoo, AIM, GoogleTalk, ICQ, and Facebook chat.

The latest edition uses less data, logs you in faster, fixes some annoying bugs (custom messages work again, no more double Yahoo entries), and it lets you choose the color of the user interface.

Unfortunately eBuddy displays a big ugly advertisement in your contacts list, and it can't send files or voice messages. You're better off with Nimbuzz, fring, Talkonaut, Palringo, or Slick. eBuddy is no longer a suitable choice for phones that run on Symbian 9.x.

eBuddy wants you to do an on the fly install from your phone browser, but you don't need to put up with that. Just select your phone brand and model from the dropdown boxes on get.ebuddy.com, download the jad file, and open it with a text editor to read the location of the corresponding jar file. There's yet another test version of Jbak TaskMan. This program shows the running tasks on your phone, including hidden tasks that won't show up in Symbian's built-in task manager. Jbak TaskMan also displays memory status, disk usage, and detailed task info. When the program is running, long-pressing the menu button launches Jbak TaskMan instead of Symbian's built-in task manager.

The new test version fixes a few bugs, lets you set the font size in pixels, and the menus appear faster. And now Jbak TaskMan has a flashlight too. When you activate it, your screen turns bright white, but BrightLight and Light Control are better at turning your phone into a torch.

Talkonaut fixes bugs but forgets Skype, fring twitters faster, Nokia Messaging plays with Facebook, Fake Messages reads your phone book

Still no Skype and Facebook in Talkonaut

Instant messenger and VoIP client Talkonaut talks to Jabber (including Google Talk), ICQ, MSN, AIM, and Yahoo. And it lets you call using almost every VoIP service that uses the SIP protocol.

The latest update fixes some very minor bugs, but the main Talkonaut flaw remains: Talkonaut doesn't work with Skype. It doesn't work with Facebook Chat either.

On the bright side, Talkonaut lets you store multiple SIP VoIP settings, which competing programs Nimbuzz and fring still do not.

Symbian S60 task manager KillMe groups the processes (including the hidden ones) that run on your mobile phone according to whether your phone really needs them to keep running.

KillMe is the easiest way to close programs that can't be killed from Symbian's built-in task manager. If a program gets stuck and won't quit, KillMe will make it go away. You can also use KillMe to close non-essential processes to free some memory if you're running low.

The latest KillMe update kills a few bugs.

KillMe doesn't have its own website in english yet, but you can get KillMe in english at Mobile Castle. You'll need to sign the program or hack your phone to install unsigned programs.

If you try to install the new version of KillMe on top of an older version and your phone pops up an "update error," uninstall the old version and try again.

Useless for Symbian: The Ultimate File Explorer and File browser

When you call your application The Ultimate File Explorer the users of your program will have very high expectations. The author promises a lot: "This is the last file manager that you will ever need! The Ultimate File Explorer contains all the essential features that you will ever need in a file manager."

But The Ultimate File Explorer fails on every promise. It's coded in mobile Java, so it starts up horribly slow. Even worse, your phone pops up security warnings each and every time you open a folder, file, or navigate back to where you came from. Some mobile Java programs let you switch off those warnings in Symbian's application manager, but for The Ultimate File Explorer "ask every time" is the best you can get, which makes this file manager useless on all but the oldest phones. Even if you click "yes" on all the warnings, that doesn't mean The Ultimate File Explorer will manage to open all your own, unlocked, supposedly accessible folders. Folders like E:\images and E:\music on my memory card should open easily, but The Ultimate File Explorer chokes on just about everything on my memory card. I tried it on two different phones with two different memory cards, so it's safe to state that the problem is with The Ultimate File Explorer, not with my phones or memory cards.

Another attempt at an alternative file manager is the Python program File browser Modded by Caominh171. This doesn't suffer from the security issues that bite mobile Java programs. Unfortunately the program failed to open on my phones, even though I installed them on the same drive as the latest official release of Python. So I couldn't test if File browser Modded by Caominh171 really opens system folders, RAR archives, and WMV movies as promised by the author.

Until something better comes along, I'll keep managing the files on my phones with ActiveFile and X-plore. These programs are far from perfect, but they're a million times better than The Ultimate File Explorer and File browser Modded by Caominh171.

Fake Messages talks to your phone book

If nobody sends you an SMS, why not send some to yourself? Fake Messages by Jukka Silvennoinen does just that. Receiving a fake SMS at the right time may be your escape ticket out of a boring meeting (sorry boss, gotta go, girlfriend just told me house is on fire).




The user interface of Fake Messages is now available in 17 languages.



The message entry box of Fake Messages doesn't support T9 predictive text, and the program only fakes incoming SMSs. If you want to fake outgoing messages as well, try the fake SMS feature of ActiveFile.



The unsigned version of Fake Messages is free, but you'll have to run it through Symbian Signed before you can install it on your phone, or sign it with your own certificate, or hack your phone to break free from Symbian Signed.



The signed version is comes bundled with adtronic. Adtronic is an intrusive piece of adware that pops up advertisements when you receive calls and messages, so better get the unsigned version. Signing the program or hacking your phone takes a bit of time and effort, but allowing adtronic to pollute your phone is much worse.

The latest edition of proxy-based mobile phone web browser Skyfire for Symbian launches a bit faster, lets you click links without zooming in, zooms smoother, and when you send the program to the background it disconnects to save battery power.



Skyfire still doesn't support T9 predictive text input, in-page links, and scrolling through inline frames. And it won't fit web pages to the width of your phone screen the way browsers like Opera Mini and UCWEB do. And compared to other mobile phone web browsers Skyfire is still horribly slow.



So why would you use such a horrible browser? To watch video! Skyfire plays YouTube movies and other video that no other mobile phone web browser will play. Skyfire is not the browser of choice for text and pictures, but it's a good idea to keep a copy on your phone for watching web video that other browsers won't show, because Bolt is not ready for the job yet.

Nokia Announced To Launch Nokia C5 New C Series Mobile Phone

The Game:
World Age of Magic - the world of fairy tales and legends. It is inhabited by elves, dwarves and other fantastic creatures. Heroes travel the world in search of treasure and glory.
Magic - the cornerstone of the world AoM. In all there are 6 schools of magic: earth, water, fire, air, light and darkness. And two schools to explore the opposite direction is impossible, such as knowing the magic of darkness, the magic of light will be unavailable. 8 Blog Traffic Tips

1. Before you write your first blog post, make a list of topics that speak directly to what people in your industry are most asking about. If you don’t know, consult WordTracker Questions.
2. Do keyword research on your topic to use as tags and as subjects to write about. Run them through an online thesaurus as well.
3. Optimize your blog for search engines. Properly configured blogs can get a continuous flow of traffic from search engines that is easy to maintain.
4. Already have a blog? Double your blog posting for a week. Look at your traffic stats – this can bring 25 – 200% more traffic.
5. Comment on more blogs by people in compatible markets. If  you’re an interior decorator, it’s all well and good to comment on other interior decorator’s blogs, but you have more of an exclusive market among, say, local realtor blogs
6. Submit to as many blogs taking guest blog posts as you can.
7. Get some guest blogging happening on your site – it’ll give you a break and help you form partnerships.
8. Don’t discount blog carnivals, or think that they’re beneath you. They tend to drive a lot of targeted traffic that’s actively interested in the topic.

How to Create A High Traffic Top Level Blog

1. 1
   The first thing you will need to do if you decide to start a top level blog, is a hosting company to put your site at. The most important thing about choosing the hosting company for your blog is knowing the amount of downtime you can expect. I once used a company with 88% uptime and I thought that was a high rate but realistically it meant that 12% of the time my site would be down, guess what time that was. It was the hours between 9 am and 5 pm, in my time zone. Not good for local business at all. So choose a hosting company that will be up most of the time. Additionally, get a hosting company who will allow you to have unlimited space for your websites so that you can host more than one site and so that you can have a site that is really large and has a lot of pictures on it. My recommendation for a great hosting company is GoDaddy.com, this site has great uptime, it is very inexpensive (14.99 a month for an unlimited account) and you can put multiple domains on the same hosting account. I have 39 on one hosting account.
   
2. Step 2
   Next, you will need to choose a short, to the point domain name. Something easy to remember like if you have a bike shop that sells accessories as well you could be bikesandstuff.com or if you talk about financial information, you could have a site called wizardoffinance.com. Think of something that will make people think of you. It is very important that you be easy to remember. If your name is Katherine Johnson and you own a bike shop, kjohnson.com is surely not going to tell anyone that you have a bike shop, so be careful to choose a site that best represents what you do or sell.
   
3. Step 3
   Choose the right niche, comes next, if you have a website you can stick to one tight niche more easily than with a blog. Here is why. With a website you just need great content and something to sell. When you have a blog you have to constantly update that blog so it is important to choose a niche with a wider base. If you have a dog website, you can limit yourself to learning how to buy the right shampoo for your dogs grooming, with a blog you need to know the right thing to feed your dog, clean your dog, walking your dog, and training your dog, so that you have daily updates and keep your readers returning on a regular basis.
   
4. Step 4
   You will need to have great keywords for your site as well. This is really important to the success of your business. I hear that there are many different sites that will give you a keyword list or two, however for me I come up with my own keywords then I search them on Google. I then get to see what other websites are doing, I go on their sites for word counts of their articles, links that they have, how many times they used the keyword, and how many ads they have as well as the positioning of those ads. Then I use my research to get to the top of the search engine. All of my top level domains are on the first through third page of Google because I took the time to see what the top sites are doing with their niches to get there.
   
5. Step 5
   Design impressive content, I hear people all the time using PLR articles or some other persons work and while that certainly makes the job easier it will not help you bring in traffic. Most of the time if the person has been looking up information about your topic, they have read the article you submit hundreds of times because PLR companies sell the same article to many people at one time. However, if you are going to use PLR articles, either rewrite them or get someone to do it for you and update the information so that it is relevant for today. If you are writing for yourself, you should research and develop outstanding articles that say exactly what you want to say and what you want your readers to know. If it is at all possible provide resources so that they can get more indepth information on the topic. They will see you as a good source of information and will return when they are researching a topic similar to yours. If they are an enthusiast of your topic they will follow you or put your site into their RSS Reader.
   
6. Step 6
   Lastly you will need to take the time to really promote your site. I have found that there are several great places for promotion. One is BlogCatalog.com, they are a social site that puts your site up for others to check out before they follow, it has thousands of people coming their everyday and you can always find someone to check out your site. Blog Explosion is where you go read other peoples sites for points, the points get you traffic because in order to get points the other people will have to read your site. Then you can list your site on Twitter, Facebook, Digg, StartupBiz and many other social networks. You can also write articles to the dozens of article submission sites. My favorite thing to do is to go to a site called Redgage, you can get tons of traffic not just to your blogs but everything that you write online, which ultimately means even more traffic to your blogs.

15 High Traffic Article Marketing Sites

Article marketing in the highest traffic sites may not guarantee exposure, but high traffic sites may give one a better opportunity to be found than minor sites can offer.
Generally, article marketing sites neither require payment from authors nor pay them for their articles. Search engine users are looking for valuable content, and that is what authors seek to provide.
In exchange for such information, article marketing sites typically allow a couple of self-serving links to be placed in a section separated from the article — in a “resource box,” author information area, or sometimes profile. Typical convention is to write the author information in the 3rd person (he, she).
Links in the body of the article, whether self-serving or not, are usually frowned upon or allowed up to a maximum of one to three in number, usually excluding affiliate links (links that go directly to sales pages).
In many cases, authors may pay a fee for the service of wider or more prominent publication of articles. But this is not required.
Terms of service, submission guidelines, or other policies usually forbid articles which are merely self-serving, self-promoting, or blatant sales attempts. Other content restrictions usually apply, such as to pornography, libel, spam, and so on. English is usually the preferred or only language, at least to most of the sites below.
Usually the site requires a variable time frame before submitted articles are published, sometimes days or a week.
Also worthy of note is my exclusion of the article site with the highest traffic of all, namely about.com, because its limited number of authors are hired based on an existing track record of expertise in the niche in which they write. Comments on articles exclude links to websites and blogs.
The following article marketing sites are listed from those with the highest traffic to the least as of the time of this writing, but all are the highest traffic sites I could find, save one that ceased further publication some months ago (digital-web.com).
Notes to select sites are intended to be helpful, not comprehensive.
